Rehabilitation Services

The California Armenian Home’s rehabilitation team provides outstanding physical, occupational, and speech therapy services to each resident, who is individually evaluated before their personal plan of care is developed to maximize their independence and ability. Family members are encouraged to observe therapy sessions and provide encouragement and support to their loved ones, as caregiver education and training is included in the rehabilitation program.

Our Physical Therapy team works to assist residents to achieve their maximum potential with respect to strength, mobility and safety. Our licensed Physical Therapists evaluate and design individualized treatment programs for restoring motor control and coordination, alleviating pain, and preventing disability following injury or illness. Treatments may include:

  • Therapeutic exercise
  • Joint mobilization
  • Range of motion exercises
  • Gait training
  • Balance and coordination training
  • Hot-packs/cold packs
  • Electrical Stimulation
  • Ultrasound
  • Massage/soft tissue mobilization
  • Bed mobility/transfer training
  • Paraffin baths
  • Home exercise program

The Occupational Therapy program focuses on improving the resident’s ability to manage everyday living skills. Our licensed Occupational Therapists evaluate and identify functional goals. Programs are individually developed to maximize the resident’s optimal level of independence, restoring functional abilities to compensate for dysfunction and minimize deficits. Occupational therapy services may include:

  • Activities of Daily Living Training
  • Fabrication/Ordering of splints and slings
  • Hand Rehabilitation
  • Energy conservation techniques
  • Home Living Skills
  • Utilization of adaptive equipment
  • Upper Extremity therapeutic exercises
  • Safety training

Our licensed Speech and Language Pathologists provide a range of interventions to assess and help restore abilities on the areas of communication, swallowing, and cognition. Our treatment programs are designed to work with residents whose function in these areas has been affected due to stroke, brain injury, dementia, and other neurological disorders, as well as difficulties relating to hearing impairment, respiratory illnesses, and complex medical conditions. Areas of treatment may include:

  • Improving speech and voice clarity
  • Increasing comprehension and verbal expression
  • Improving chewing and swallowing ability
  • Maximizing cognitive language skills, like memory, problem-solving, and abstract reasoning.
